Use these remedies for arthritis flare-ups:

REST Get a good night’s rest, plus morning & afternoon rest periods.

BALANCE YOUR REST with gentle exercise. Exercise builds muscle strength and helps prevent stiffness and loss of motion ie swimming in a mildly heated pool.

HEAT also helps, try soaking in a warm tub and using a heating pad or hot pack to help ease pain in sensitive joints.

MASSAGE gently to also relieve stiff aching muscles. Using heat and massage regularly provides great relief without extra cost of professional therapy.

EASE UP when it hurts. One of the best methods of relieving arthritis pain is simply reducing the stress on the sensitive joints.

All of these commonsense tips are easy and inexpensive and are a good way to help relieve the pain of arthritis.

BLOOD PRESSURE

The bad news is….Heart disease is the leading cause of death in many countries. If you can feel those seconds ticking by, destroy your time bomb yourself.

You can lower your high blood pressure naturally with these simple four steps:

Exercise at least 30 minutes three times a week.

Lose at least 10 pounds (4-5 kgs)

Eat a diet low in salt

Consume no more than two alcoholic drinks per day.

Crunching Celery is effective…but don’t overdo it.

Have a banana. Eating foods high in potassium can actually lower your blood pressure. Skim milk is also a good source of potassium. Potassium lowers blood pressure by preventing thickening of artery walls which is what slows down blood flow and can trigger strokes and heart attacks.

Protect yourself by eating your string beans and apples every day…just like your mother told you.

Feeling down? Check your blood pressure.

Studies link low blood pressure to both tiredness and feelings of faintness or lightheadedness. Most people experience lower blood pressure in the mornings after they have been lying down for hours. To avoid the dizzy headrush and faintness when getting out of bed, rise slowly to a sitting position in bed. Yawn and stretch and take deep breaths to help increase your heart rate, then slowly stand up taking deep breaths for a moment.

BRONCHITIS

Blow away breathlessness when you blow up a balloon….

Blowing up balloons probably is something you haven’t done since your youngest said goodbye to childhood birthday parties, BUT if you suffer from bronchitis, you might need to take up the art again. It could help to relieve some of your symptoms.

People with bronchitis, emphysema and other chronic lung diseases often complain of breathlessness because their lung tissues aren’t working as well as they used to. The tissue in the lungs is damaged and scarred and people suffering from lung diseases feel tired and weary and like they can’t ever quite catch their breath. Try blowing up balloons to 20 cms (8 inches) in diameter as many times as you can manage up to 40 times per day and in a month….and feel the difference.

BURNS

Tips to cool off your burns…

Here are some hot tips for you to follow when you or one of your family members gets burned:

Look at the burn and decide how serious it is…you can have first, second or third degree burns and your treatment will depend on how serious it is.

FIRST-DEGREE are the least severe and do not require a doctor. These burns are red and painful but the skin in not broken and there are no blisters.

(Examples of first-degree burns are mild sunburns, brushing up against a hot iron, or touching a hot casserole dish without a potholder.)

FIRST DEGREE WHAT TO DO…..

Soak it in cool water for up to 15 minutes.

Dry tenderly and cover loosely with gauze for 24 hours and let it start to heal on its own.

SECOND-DEGREE burns are a little more serious, with pain and redness but here we have blisters and weeping oozing of the burn.

(Examples of second-degree burns are bad sunburn, touching the hot eye of your stovetop, or hot glue drop from a glue gun.)

SECOND-DEGREE WHAT TO DO.....

Soak in cool water for up to 15 minutes.

Dry tenderly, then cover with a layer of antibiotic cream ---DO NOT touch with your fingers, use rubber gloves or a sterile tongue depressor blade or even a cotton swab to apply the cream. Cover with nonstick dressing and keep dressing in place with some gauze.

Re-apply two or three times a day, if blisters appear, DO NOT "POP" the blisters – they will go away on their own. If blisters do pop, clean off again and re-apply anticiotic cream and

Don’t scratch when it heals and begins to itch.

THIRD-DEGREE burns are serious matters. These burns can be charred or white coloured, sometimes they don’t hurt because the nerves in the skin have been damaged.

(Examples of these burns are like actually coming into contact with fire, electricity, strong chemicals or acids spilled on your skin.

THIRD-DEGREE WHAT TO DO.....

See your DOCTOR as soon as possible.

DO NOT put butter, yogurt sprays, numbing or anaestesia creams on the burn…these things could cause infection and worsen situation.

Make sure your tetanus immunizations are up to date.

SEE YOUR DOCTOR IF ANY BURN:

Is third-degree
Is looking infected
Is not beginning to heal in 10 days
Is on a child.
