"Being Single, be Single Minded" |
|
Tony Alcock, international bowler and new national bowls coach for England, observed in his article… ‘Single handed, single minded’ for the Bowls International magazine, that there are some players who will never be able to come to terms with singles play bowls as it is the most mentally demanding type of competition in bowls requiring vast knowledge and understanding of your own needs, capabilities, strengths and weaknesses This past year with the ‘elbows’ bowls squad, I have requested squad members undertake a performance analysis of themselves. Listed below is a precis of what I asked them to respond to. Bowlers with any regard for development should do something similar, so read and react;
Well, now that you read it, how did you go completing the above ? I asked each of the squad to take the time to think and respond because if they could explain what it is they are doing it should help their development as a bowler. And their feedback assists me in the role of coach for each bowler (Tony) Alcock continued by saying when he was coming third to collect bronze in the world titles, he gave his best shot and thought the bronze is for third place, in realistic terms it was tinged with gold for fulfilling and completing an arduous task single handed and single minded. For the squad and bowlers in general…each of Alcocks comments MUST, not can, apply to you if you are to strive further, where striving for development is striving for success. "Good Bowling"
