‘Talking Tactically’

with Lachlan Tighe.....

(a new weekly edition, commenced 12/9/2001, of thoughts, observations and commentaries on developments for bowls coaching and competition)

"...tactical analysis of or in competition"

(edition nineteen, 6/2/2002, of thoughts & observations on lawn bowls)

Interestingly, I drafted the dot points below last week and in between time played in a tournament fours and reviewed the fact we lost because of our team inability to address these as we played the game.

Many people think my comments only apply to the best bowlers. Don’t you believe it ! Perhaps one reason for their superiority is that they understand and apply these or similar approaches in the quest for excellence.

So how committed are you to go and analyse your most recent event and learn from it - most players in our sport are just that, players…why not go up a cog and join the dinkum competitors who most probably would analyse these questions and apply them for ongoing development as better bowlers.

Where are your winners/ winning ends

Can you play these deliveries more effectively

Can you play them more often

Are you taking every opportunity to win ends

Where are your mistakes

What is the reason for them

Can these be minimised

How can this be done

Where were the opposition winners

How was the opponent getting the opportunity to use these deliveries

How can you change your game to reduce their winning opportunities

Where is your opponent making mistakes

Can you pressure them into adding to their mistakes

Are you playing a hand well, describe

Are you playing a length well, describe

Are you playing a certain shot well, describe

How are you observing your standard of play

How are you monitoring your concentration

How are you observing your opponent

I am looking forward to sharing some exciting bowls news with you readers next edition
